Assignment # 15 – Can’t Believe It!

May 1, 2008 by nowrnevr

Well there we are … all done, and it’s not quite 10:40 pm yet!  I was enthralled to read all about Second Life etc, and I have already seen my son play Runescape quite a bit.  I note that the Library Administrators neglected to mention an old favourite of my kids’, the virtual world that contains penguins (I can’t believe the name of it escapes me, but I’ve been at this all day now!); that surely fits into one of these categories!

I took a simple route, and tried one of the games on Popcaps, called Chuzzles.  I have to admit, it was pretty fun!

How do all these things fit into the library world?  Chris Carr made some VERY good points in the overview for this assignment … and certainly, literacy and reading skills are involved in all of them.  I can also imagine them being used as tools for communicating with library users in new and different ways.

It is now coming up to 10:45 pm; thanks, HPL “Library Administrator” for this experience (even though I’m sure it’s aged me a couple of decades!)

Over and out!

Assign. # 14 — Finis!

May 1, 2008 by nowrnevr

I did it!  Now, on to The Final Assignment!

PLEASE NOTE, the time on my home computer is currently 10:21 pm.  The time here on WordPress says it’s 2:20 am, BUT IT’S NOT!  I’m getting it done by the deadline — you’ll see! (I never worried about that stupid time thing-y before!)

Assign. #14 — the Home Stretch in sight!

So here you will find the URL for the Shared Document I created on Google Documents:  http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dd5bzz2b_0f8qnpcc7

It may not be genius, but it’s something!

And now I’m going to create another incredible document, and share it with Jaime-Lyn!

Assign. #13 — Lucky for me!

Hi All, that title above was tongue-in-cheek …   YouTube I at least had a passing familiarity with, thanks to my delightful offspring.  I did enjoy the video of the guy singing in the Locke Branch — how did that ever come about?!?

Podcasting doesn’t grab my fancy so much:  I sampled a little one on a new brand of lipgloss at the following:  http://www.podcast.net/show/73324.  I’m just too visual a person to spend much time with this, I suspect — but I never say “never”!

Assignment #12 – Not for the Faint of Heart

May 1, 2008 by nowrnevr

Well, that was all very interesting.  I was able to open an account with Eaudiobooks, and downloaded Anne Morrow Lindbergh:  Her Life, by Susan Hertog.  Over at Overdrive, I chose what I suspect has been a popular title, Improve your memory by Gary Small.  The selections at both venues were extensive, but one does still run into the typical situation of finding that the very title one wants is tied up with a holds list.  However!  I am also convinced that I am not “technical” enough to use this kind of stuff on a regular basis.  (you can take it from that that I didn’t find this easy!).  I will continue to favour the book in the hand with pages, I’m sure.

Week 11’s Assignment: OMG!!!

April 30, 2008 by nowrnevr

You can see from the title above that this particular little baby has not been easy for me!  In fact, let me say it right here:  I would not have gotten through this without (once again!) the help of my awesome colleagues here at RH, and the extremely talented Ms Paula Paolucci in particular.  Wow!  I feel like I’ve come through a dark tunnel, blindfolded, and have now come out into the light!!

I’m sure our library customers will want to use these features in all kinds of ways:  I just hope I’ll be able to remember enough to provide assistance!  As to promotion, let’s rely on word of mouth!

Week # 9 is DONE!

Rolling right along!  Getting closer and closer … I’ll keep on going!  (see you at the finish line?!)

Week #8’s Activity: That was fun!

April 26, 2008 by nowrnevr

Yes, my enthusiasm for this whole challenge (Learning 2.0) seems to be growing!  Would have to say I really enjoyed both del.icio.us and Library Thing — the latter in particular!  I’ve started bookmarking and tagging with deli.icio.us, and put in a few eccentric choices in Library Thing.  Looks like you could use up enormous chunks of time hanging out on Library Thing.  If you want to see my stuff:  http://del.icio.us.nowrnevr and http://www.librarything.com/catalog/nowrnevr.  Enjoy!

You can see it! (this is Week # 7’s assignment!)

Okay, if you click on the small “x” in the upper left corner, you can actually see the trading card I made!  That’s the photo/image I was uploading to my blog for this week — and may I just say, it was a little trickier for me, because WordPress’s screen has changed since Melanie’s super Camtasia instructional video was made!  But it appears I have succeeded … will wonders never cease!

I hope my picture (trading card!) will publish!
